The Great Commission
Many people have wondered about our name. If you're curious then just read on.
Since before I had my salesperson's license, my goal was always to own my own company. I wanted to wait until the time was right though. I wasn't sure how I would know the time was right, but I had faith that when the time was right it would be revealed...and it was!
Through the eight years I worked at other real estate companies I put together a list of 316 names to consider for our new company. I wasn't happy with any of them. Then, in late 2005, the name "Great Commission Realty" came to me. I scrapped the list of 316 names and knew in my heart that this was the name I was looking for. Shortly after that, a client of mine, and by the way I have some of the nicest clients a person could ask for, told me that he was going to get his real estate license once he got settled in. I already had my first agent, so I knew the time was right.
So, that's where the name came from and why we started when we did. But I still haven't told you what it means.
Some people I told the name to thought it meant that we would make lots of money because we charged a high "great" commission.
Others thought it meant we would help our clients save money by charging them a commission that was great in their viewpoint.
Those familiar with the New Testament asked about Matthew 28:16-20 which goes like this: "Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
Our agents have asked if it comes from the fact that we have a great commission split, or if it is because of the great commission we pay in our permanent referral program, or if it is because we share more referrals with our agents allowing them to make great commissions.
A broker once told me of a commission plan he used and I believed he was onto something. It works like this: 1% commission is paid by the seller if they bring in their own buyer and I do the paperwork, 3% commission is paid by the seller if I bring in the buyer, and 5% commission is paid by the seller if another agent brings in the buyer. This is a plan we offer to this day.
I am leaving the interpretation of what Great Commission Realty really means open to you. Take the meaning you like and run with it!
