If you're unable to obtain a loan to purchase a home you still have options!  Owner financing or lease purchase can help you get into a home without obtaining financing.  Only a small fraction of the homes listed for sale offer these options, but there are some very nice homes that do!

Typically the owner is looking for a small down payment, usually 3-6% of the asking price.  Then, you agree to make a payment that is amortized over 30 years at an interest rate slightly higher than conventional loans, making it affordable.  The terms usually include a balloon payment, which means you will be required to refinance in 1 to 3 years, depending on the what is negotiated.  This gives you time to repair bruised credit or to establish time on a new job so that you can qualify for regular financing.
